The essay, on the occasion of the first centenary of the disappearance of Giuseppe Pitrè (1841-1916), focuses on those unpublished works that have been edited and published during the National edtion of 1985, which was dedicated to the most accomplished folklorist of Palermo. Zainteresowanie folklorystyki współczesnymi narracjami potocznymi wynika z przedefiniowania przedmiotu badań folklorystycznych. Uznanie folkloru za część kultury, która podlega takim samym przemianom jak cała kultura i jest zjawiskiem społecznie oraz historycznie zróżnicowanym, wymaga doprecyzowania podstawowych pojęć: oralności, kontekstu kulturowego, sytuacji folklorotwórczej, procesu odbioru przekazywanych treści. Oralności nie można bowiem sprowadzać tylko do ustnego (bezpośredniego) sposobu przekazywania treści, ponieważ jest ona także sposobem egzystencji człowieka, poznawania i rozumienia świata. Mathematicians love to tell stories about people they once knew or perhaps only heard about. If the story happens to sound believable, others are apt to repeat it, possibly embellishing on the original tale. Such mathematical folklore occasionally finds its way into print, and once it does, readers are apt to take such stories at face value, lending them additional credibility. Occasionally, though, alleged facts come under scrutiny, and established stories are exposed as fiction. Yet even when someone comes along with decisive evidence refuting an earlier account it can easily happen that the original story just refuses to die.

Il genere musicale conosciuto in Russia come Šanson, una rielaborazione commerciale del folklore criminale, colpisce per la somiglianza con la canzone neomelodica napoletana, che nei testi fa spesso riferimento al mondo criminale. Questo rapporto, che in Italia è oggetto di “panico morale”, è però meno stigmatizzato in Russia, dove è forte il ricordo del contatto tra intellettuali e criminali nei lager negli anni delle grandi purghe.
